Connecting your Gmail or Outlook mailbox

How to connect one

• Open Settings.
• Find the card headed "Gmail or Outlook" under Connect another.
• Press Connect, choose Google or Microsoft, and sign in as the account you want to send from.
• You will land back on Settings with the mailbox listed under Connected.

It does not use up your LinkedIn allowance

A mailbox and a LinkedIn account are counted separately. A plan covering one LinkedIn account also covers one mailbox, and a plan covering three covers three of each.

That is deliberate. Email exists here to give a message somewhere to go when LinkedIn is not read, which is the same person doing the same work, and charging twice for it would price out the thing that makes the main channel more effective.

Swapping one for another

Disconnect the current mailbox first and the slot is free again. Disconnecting keeps everything already collected: the people, the conversations and the history all stay, and only the connection is given back.

What a mailbox does and does not do

• It sends. Messages go from your own address rather than from ours.
• It does not find anybody. Nothing is noticed by watching a mailbox, so signals still come from LinkedIn.
• It is used only where a play has an email step. Adding the mailbox alone changes nothing until a play uses it.
• The rules on unsolicited email are applied when a message is about to send rather than when it is drafted, because a draft can be edited before it goes.
