Help · Approving and sending

Sending by email

You can connect your own Gmail or Outlook mailbox, and outreach email is then sent from it rather than from us. That matters for two reasons: replies land in your own inbox where you will see them, and your sending reputation stays yours rather than being shared with every other customer.

Connecting it

It works exactly like connecting LinkedIn. You are taken to your mail provider's own sign-in page, your password never reaches us, and you can disconnect it at any time.

What email is for here

It is somewhere for a message to go when LinkedIn goes unread. Nothing is noticed by watching a mailbox: the events that start a conversation still come from LinkedIn.

The most useful thing it does is carry a follow-up. A play can send its first message on LinkedIn and, if nobody replies, its follow-up by email, which only reaches the people whose address you have.

The rules email has to follow

  • Every outreach email carries a working unsubscribe link. This is a legal requirement in the UK, not a courtesy.
  • It also carries the information mail clients need to show an unsubscribe button next to your name, which is far better for you than somebody reporting the message instead.
  • An email with no subject line is refused rather than sent.
  • A subject implying a conversation that has not happened, such as "Re: our call" or "As discussed", is refused.

When somebody unsubscribes

They are added to your do-not-contact list, and that covers every channel rather than only the address they used. Somebody who asks you to stop emailing has not asked to be messaged on LinkedIn instead.

Anything already drafted or approved for that person is cancelled straight away rather than at the next send.
