Seeing where something has happened

What counts as something happening

Anything the system already watches for, but counted per company instead of per person. If three people at one company did something in the last month, that company shows one line saying so rather than being three separate names in a long list.

• Somebody there changed role or was promoted.
• Somebody there posted, or commented on a post.
• Somebody there accepted your connection request.
• Somebody there updated their profile.

Why a job change is highlighted and a post is not

When several things happened at one company, the row names the most significant one rather than the most recent. A month of one job change and four posts is a month in which somebody changed job, and calling it "4 posts" buries the only part worth acting on.

A job change, a promotion, funding or hiring news is coloured, because it is a reason to open a conversation this week. A post is not coloured, because it is a reason to have something to say once you do.

How the list is ordered

Accounts where something happened come first, most recent first. Everything else keeps the old order, which is the companies where you know the most people. Turning activity on therefore only ever lifts rows; it never reshuffles the quiet ones.

Why an account you expected is not there

• Nothing has happened there in the last thirty days. Open the company itself to see its whole history, which is not limited to that window.
• It happened to somebody whose employer could not be read from their headline, so there was no account to put it on. The number of those is printed under the list.
• It happened to somebody who is not on your list at all. Only people you are connected to, or have imported, are watched.
• Somebody there has since changed employer. Their history moves to the new company with them, because an account is not still busy on the strength of somebody who left it.
