Drafting a reply to a conversation

What it uses

• The last dozen messages in the conversation, so it answers what was actually said.
• Your notes about that person, which shape the reply but are never quoted or hinted at in it.
• Your voice sample, for rhythm and length rather than for subject matter.
• Your booking link, but only when the other person has asked to talk.

It will not draft some replies

If somebody has asked not to be contacted, there is no draft. That request is already recorded and nothing further will be sent to them, and offering to help word a response would be one more message they did not ask for.

If somebody has said they are the wrong person, there is no draft either. The useful next step is asking who the right one is, which is one line in your own words and reads badly when it is generated.

In both cases you get an explanation rather than an empty box, and you can still write something yourself if you know the person.

Why the button is sometimes greyed out

It is disabled when there is already text in the box, because a draft replaces what is there. Overwriting three sentences you had just typed would not be forgivable, so clear the box first if you want a suggestion instead.

It is a draft, not a decision

Read it before you send it, and change it. A suggestion that goes out unread is the thing this product exists to avoid, and the same principle applies here as in the approval queue: the machine proposes, a person decides.

If the suggestion is wrong, that is useful information. The most common cause is that the conversation has context the system cannot see, which is exactly what notes are for.
